The series, in one table
Descriptions are Andersen’s own, from its website.
| Series | Made of | Where it sits |
|---|---|---|
| 100 Series | Fibrex, a wood fiber and polymer composite | Lowest-priced line, pitched as “the smart alternative to vinyl.” Never needs painting |
| 200 Series | Wood | The most popular designs and sizes at a lower price |
| 400 Series | Wood with a vinyl-clad exterior | The best seller, with more styles, colors and sizes than the 200 |
| A-Series | Wood inside, fiberglass and composite outside | Andersen’s best-performing and most energy-efficient line, with a coastal impact version |
| E-Series | Wood inside, aluminum outside | Built to exact specs, 50 standard colors and custom shapes |
What they cost
Andersen’s own comparison chart lists an awning window at $480 to $720 in the 100 Series and $580 to $860 in the 400 Series. Those are national figures for the window alone. Andersen says installation is not included.
Installed on Long Island, Royal Windows and Doors puts a 400 Series double-hung at about $700 to $1,300. Their breakdown is roughly $350 to $600 for the window, a 20 to 30% dealer markup, and $200 to $400 to install it. For the A-Series and E-Series, Andersen only gives prices by quote.
Andersen vs Renewal by Andersen
This is where most of the confusion comes from.
Buying an Andersen series means you or your contractor order the windows through a dealer or The Home Depot, and an installer you choose puts them in. You can compare installers and pick the series.
Renewal by Andersen is a separate full-service division. A consultant comes to the house, measures, and quotes one price for custom Fibrex windows plus installation by their crews. Renewal by Andersen does not publish per-window prices. Its Long Island showroom is in Farmingdale and covers Nassau and Suffolk.
Where to buy on Long Island
Andersen’s dealer locator lists Riverhead Building Supply in Riverhead as a Premier Dealer that sells with or without installation, and RBS carries Andersen at showrooms from Mineola to East Hampton. Florence Building Materials in East Quogue and Amagansett Building Materials in Mattituck also show up in Andersen’s locator.
Warranty
Andersen’s 400 Series carries 20 years on standard glass and 10 years on non-glass parts, and Andersen says its Owner-2-Owner warranty transfers if you sell the house. Renewal by Andersen’s warranty is 20 years on glass and frame, 10 years on other parts and color, and 2 years on installation, also transferable.
Installation is still on the installer. If you buy a series window and hire your own crew, get their workmanship warranty in writing.
